Start Something Today

Sponsor change in your community.

Building friendships. Changing lives.

Since 1970 we have helped thousands of young people in the North Bay grow up to be happy, successful, contributing members of our community by providing a professionally supported mentor to each child in need.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Bay is a donor and volunteer supported organization that provides adult mentors to children in Marin, Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties who need caring role models in their lives - a friend, guide and supporter who can expand their horizons and get them on a lifelong path for success.

History of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Bay
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Bay (formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marin) was formed in 1970 to improve the lives and futures of children facing adversity in Marin County. In 1999 Napa County was added to our service area, and in 2007 we incorporated Solano County and changed our name to reflect our expanded service area. In 2008 we merged with the Sonoma County agency. We currently serve 500 children per year in the North Bay.

The Need in the North Bay

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Bay, like all Big Brothers Big Sisters affiliates, is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with its own staff, budget and board of directors. Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the national organization, sets and measures program standards, offers online training and supports the affiliates with national campaigns and initiatives. We are a donor and volunteer supported organization that provides adult mentors to children in Marin, Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties who need caring role models in their lives - a friend, guide and supporter who can expand their horizons and get them on a lifelong path to success. 95% of our funding is raised locally, primarily from individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and events. Local County and City governments also support our work through small

Our agency is in urgent need for financial support to help us meet the growing need for services in our community and fund our professional counseling staff that recruits, trains, and supports our matches. We have over 165 children  waiting to be matched, mostly boys. It is imperative that we provide Big Brothers and Big Sisters for these kids facing adversity. There's often a misconception that families in Marin, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma counties are wealthy and have few problems. Unfortunately, the North Bay is home to thousands of families in need of our services.

History of National Big Brothers Big Sisters
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 16, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

Our Mission - As the nation's premier mentoring organization, our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring professionally supported one-to one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

Our Vision - Our vision is that all children achieve success in life.

Our Statement of Accountability - We partner with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving:
  • Higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships
  • Avoidance of risky behaviors
  • Educational success
